PostPosted: Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:06 am    Post subject: Ads Reply with quote

I have placed some more ads in the forums. I apologize ahead of time if this offends people's sensibilities.

I'm going to try to keep ads as low profile as possible. The exception is the Firefox banner, which works a little different. I do it because I really like Firefox, and phpBB (the forum system) actually works better with it; so I really recomend it to people.
With firefox, I get a small amount for every windows user, who has not previously installed Firefox, downloads and runs the program for the first time.

Anyway, I realize that people don't like donating; and so donations are really going slow. This is why I decided to put some advertisement.

So, as an alternative to donating, it will be very appreciated if you could support our advertisers by visiting their pages.

Thanks,

Raf.

PS: The subject is open to discussion; but try to keep it civil Smile
PS2: You can also contribute to raf simply by using the google search query in either retawq or links2! (Maybe it'll pay for all the coffee I've been drinking to get this done ! : ) )

PSPRadio will remain free, even if I were to remove the ads, or donations. I wanted to stress that.

Agree with you on the java, popups, etc ads. I hate those too; and most people do as well. Won't go there. I hate it when sites are filled with ads too.

About paying the bills, not sure if they ever will; but maybe buy me a cup of coffee or two? We'll see. It would really help if they did though Smile

Well, I removed all the ads. Google went ahead and closed my ad account with no explanation other than:
Quote:

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on
the Google ads on your site(s). We have therefore disabled your Google
AdSense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an
effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers.

No idea why this happened, but I never got paid a cent. And I had like $45 bucks already accrued (after months and months). They took that too Sad

Oh well. Ads haters rejoice Smile

It's no scam, I can't access my account anymore, it says:

Quote:

Account Not Active
An AdSense account does not exist for this login, as it is associated with an unapproved application. For more information about your application, please review the message we sent to the email address you provided with your application.

I've sent them several emails, and no response from google. They also don't provide you with a phone number, and explicitly tell you not to try to call them. I've found that there's lots of people with similar problems. o_O

Raf.

PS: For people interested, slashdot actually run a story about this yesterday: http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/06/05/05/0139247.shtml
So I'm not alone Smile

Well, I don't think they are doing it intentionally; but they are being too overzealous and internally miscommunicated it seems.. Customer service is terrible, that's for sure.. Can't say I'm happy with google atm Sad
